Citation: "The Sinai Digital Archive has been selected as this year's winner of the Medieval Academy of America Digital Humanities Prize. The collaborative project is a resource that supports inter-institutional sharing of research material from the collections of the Saint Catherine Monastery at Mount Sinai. The prize committee was impressed by the degree to which this project conforms to many emerging best practices within the Digital Humanities: the use of the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) standard for images, standard platforms (Omeka), shareable locators for individual images, an easily understood interface, and a robust sustainability plan. The project is also notable for its commitment to the preservation of previous generations of scholarship, collecting and digitizing images from five different research expeditions to Sinai in the 1950s and 1960s. All told, the Sinai Digital Archive is a focussed, well-conceived, and well-planned model for the construction of a digital archive."
