Title
Textile: Epigonation with Adoration of the Virgin
Description
Embroidery

The Virgin Mary as the Virgin of the Burning Bush is seated and enthroned. Two angels just above her appear to be lowering a mighty golden crown onto her head. Gold is used to form much of the figures' compositions. Mary holds her arms out in a gesture of benediction similar to the orans pose. The Christ Child is seated on her lap and performs the same gesture. At Mary's proper right is Moses (?) and at proper left is St. Catherine (?). Aaron (?) appears at the bottom of the embroidery and just above him are two sheep, perhaps symbols of the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei). Many other angels and seraphs populate the textile adoring Mary the Mother of God.
