Description: At the center of the medallion is an icon of the Virgin Blachernitissa, an iconographic type that frequently features a bust length Virgin Mary holding the orans poses with the Christ Child seated in her lap in a gesture of prayer or blessing. Surrounding the Virgin Blachernitissa in the central roundel are seraphim interspersed with symbols of the Evangelists (Angel of St. Matthew, Lion of St. Mark, Ox of St. Luke, and the Eagle of St. John). In the most exterior concentric circle is an inscription in Greek.
