Description

Scene 1: Nilotic landscape.
Scene 2: Nilotic landscape.
Scene 3: Nilotic landscape with a monk(?) in rock-cut niche reading book. In the background is a church.
Scene 4: Nilotic landscape with two unidentified buildings (perhaps churches?) in the background.
Scene 5: Burial of Saint Catherine of Alexandria atop of a conceptual depiction of Mount Catherine. A small white building can be seen towards the base of the mountain.
Scene 6: Monastery of St. Catherine at the foot of Mount Sinai. Stair to the top of Mount Sinai also lead to smaller buildings. At the mountain's summit is Moses receiving the Ten Commandments and another group of white buildings (one rectangular and the other a tower) perhaps referencing hermit cells or the chapel that was built there under the emperor Justinian in the 6th century CE. A cluster of brilliantly illuminated clouds hang directly over Moses and the mountain indicating the closeness of God and his communication with the prophet below.
